About the Author
Gregory Moody is the founder of Gospel-Chords.com. He has over 30 years of experience in the music field. Having studied diligently under those taught by some of the great jazz masters, and being greatly influenced by them, Greg was inspired to create the "Adventures in Harmony Series". His unique harmony and composition styles are the foundation that lead to the development of this unique program. Greg also has a degree in Computer Science from Rutgers University. Combining his knowledge and passion of both music and computers, he utilized both extensively to analyze chords, voicings relationships and to discover harmonies that only a few may have stumbled upon. As a term of endearment his friends, family and colleagues have bestowed upon him the title of "King of Harmony".

Wonderful start to brave new world

I bought this book to broaden my musical horizons. I am a keyboard player and I mostly write my own jazz compositions or improvise on standards. Being self-taught I've struggled to master the sometimes incomprehensible language of advanced chords. This book helped very much. This book is light on theory and heavy on application. I applied the technique to some of the my work and it immediately became richer.

I would give this a five star review except for one thing: the two examples are in major keys. Given the wide variety of music in minor keys one is left unsure how to approach minor keys. Their website gospel-chords.com has a malfunctioning 'ask a question' feature and their facebook page is mainly advertising.

About the Author
?mile Zola was a French writer who is recognized as an exemplar of literary naturalism and for his contributions to the development of theatrical naturalism. Zola s best-known literary works include the twenty-volume Les Rougon-Macquart, an epic work that examined the influences of violence, alcohol and prostitution on French society through the experiences of two families, the Rougons and the Macquarts. Other remarkable works by Zola include Contes ? Ninon, Les Myst?res de Marseille, and Th?r?se Raquin.

In addition to his literary contributions, Zola played a key role in the Dreyfus Affair of the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. His newspaper article J Accuse accused the highest levels of the French military and government of obstruction of justice and anti-semitism, for which he was convicted of libel in 1898. After a brief period of exile in England, Zola returned to France where he died in 1902. ?mile Zola is buried in the Panth?on alongside other esteemed literary figures Victor Hugo and Alexandre Dumas.

A great version of a great book

This is a new rendition from the Emile Zola Society edition of the novel. The reviewer below thinks this is Balzac. It's Zola of course and the Pastore edition is faithfully updated without it being absurdly modernist.Why audible.com says its "public domain" is anyone's guess. It is not. If you like your books read to you--and most readers do especially if they're in a car, this is terrific.

Dark and Intriguing

Very well written, and extremely dark.

In my quest to read classics this was on my list. I thought it was a great story told so well. However, it's a bit dark for my taste and not something I would have chosen.

The author wove an incredible tale and so many times I wanted to cry or slap someone.

I may not ever read it again, but I am glad I read it. I recommend you read it at least once.

Kate Winslet is a wonderful narrator, with her clear, soothing, and well-paced delivery, and her skilled character acting giving life and personalities to the pathetic characters of Zola's dark realist novel. The twisted plot revolves around human despair, lamentable desire, the rawness of passion, and the darkest strains of human psyche. While the theme and plot is simple and close, it is nonetheless compelling: Zola's language flows beautifully in Winslet's narration, and the dark psychology is not without its pessimistic depth. I wish Ms. Winslet could read all my books to me!

About the Author
Stephen F. Kaufman is the author of the best selling book, Musashi's Book of Five Rings: The Definitive Interpretation of Miyamoto Musashi's Classic Book of Strategy, Sun Tzu's Art of War, and The Shogun Scrolls. Acknowledged as the true founding father of American Karate, he has been elected to the title and rank of Hanshi, 10th Dan, the highest and most prestigious rank in the martial arts world. Mr. Kaufman lives in New York City but travels extensively holding seminars and teaching the principles for personal and professional excellence through the use of bushido.

A fair presentation of the author's own ideas of what Bushido is all about.

As a lifetime student of the martial arts I have had the pleasure of reading and reviewing numerous books on the philosophical principles of "Bushido, the way of the warrior." In the past I have also read and reviewed Hanshi Stephen F. Kaufman's book, "Zen and the art of stick fighting." I have always loved reading the various points of view martial art writers present when writing about living the way of the Samurai and other texts on how to live the way of the warrior. However, I found this text to be somewhat of a disappointment. It just may be this author's personal writing style of presenting the material, but I want to be fair in my review.

This book lists 55 precepts that supposedly come from Bushido, the way of the warrior, but being involved deeply for more than fifty years of martial arts training and serious study, I did not recognize many of these precepts. Further, the explanations of some of these precepts are many times vague and even contradictory.
Some of the material covered in this 128 page volume include: Do not be afraid of change; it is the only thing that's dependable, Think well of yourself and let that be your answer, Things too easy to get are generally too hard to keep, Too many books cause confusion- except the ones you write, Accept the target's acceptance, Money is not the root of evil but the meaningless things it buys are evil, Time stands still if you go fast enough, If you can't do it right, you can't do it wrong and many, many other precepts.

In conclusion, this is the first book on the "way of the warrior" that I had trouble attempting to decipher the message the author was trying to teach in many of these precepts. Just for the record, I also have written numerous articles and newsletters on Bushido, so I am not a novice at Asian Philosophy. This book only gets a fair rating from me but it may appeal to other martial artists into "the way of the warrior" books.

Concentrated Wisdom - Just Add Reader

As anticipated from my experience with Stephen Kaufman's work and wit, I was not surprised to find that all the while I was devouring "The Way of the Modern Warrior" it was devouring me right back. At the end, there wasn't any of the old me left - and that's likewise not a surprise. As my life experience has taught, and this work reminds, that's how every day is supposed to end anyway.

It would be a mistake to approach this book as a self help or self improvement manual. Stephen Kaufman writes for an audience that has things to do, goals to meet, desires to fulfill. People who are on a Path to their own version of perfection. He does not write self help books, nor does he serve up pre-packaged solutions for happy and fulfilled living to people who are looking for all the answers up front and with minimal effort.

This is a worthy accompaniment to his earlier interpretation of the "Book of Five Rings", and I highly recommend it.

The Way Of The Modern Warrior is a triumph of truth. It is a book one studies and in doing so it clears the fog of confusion by solidly outlining a blueprint of human behaviors embedded in mind, body and spirit. Within it's pages are all the principal truths of a life worth living - Realistically.

I would especially recommend this book to Women's Studies Groups at both the High School and University levels. Once read and discussed, formally or informally, it will be a permanent and oft referred to mainstay of one's personal library. Stephen Kaufman concisely defines the internal ad external road maps to success.
A Masterpiece!

Great Book

Geoff Thompson does a great job of explaining functional grammar at a level a beginner like me can understand. I highly recommend this book for anybody who is interested in systemic functional linguistics.

This complaint has nothing to do at all with the book, but the publisher or Kindle (Amazon?) failed to put page numbers in the Kindle app version of this book. It is too bad because I will need them for citations.

A Favorite at Bedtime

We love this book. My 16 month old son first fell in love with A Christmas Prayer, and asked for it months past Christmas. I finally broke down and decided to see if there was another in the series, and found this little gem. This book is a great reminder to give thanks to God for all of the little things (and big things) in life. The illustrations are cute and soft for bedtime. My son always finds something new to point out on each page. I'm sure we'll be reading this book for a long time.

"It was 2006, and eight hundred soldiers from the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) base in pseudonymous “Armyville,” Canada, were scheduled to deploy to Kandahar. Many students in the Armyville school district were destined to be affected by this and several subsequent deployments. These deployments, however, represented such a new and volatile situation that the school district lacked―as indeed most Canadians lacked―the understanding required for an optimum organizational response.
Growing Up in Armyville provides a close-up look at the adolescents who attended Armyville High School (AHS) between 2006 and 2010. How did their mental health compare with that of their peers elsewhere in Canada? How were their lives affected by the Afghanistan mission―at home, at school, among their friends, and when their parents returned with post-traumatic stress disorder? How did the youngsters cope with the stress? What did their efforts cost them? Based on questions from the National Longitudinal Survey of Children and Youth, administered to all youth attending AHS in 2008, and on in-depth interviews with sixty-one of the youth from CAF families, this book provides some answers. It also documents the partnership that occurred between the school district and the authors’ research team.
Beyond its research findings, this pioneering book considers the past, present, and potential role of schools in supporting children who have been affected by military deployments. It also assesses the broader human costs to CAF families of their enforced participation in the volatile overseas missions of the twenty-first century. "

Deborah Harrison is a professor (retired) and adjunct professor of sociology at the University of New Brunswick and a former member of the Canadian Forces Advisory Council to Veterans Affairs Canada. She is co-author of No Life Like It: Military Wives in Canada (1994) and author of The First Casualty: Violence Against Women in Canadian Military Communities (2002) and numerous articles.

Patrizia Albanese is a professor at Ryerson University and past-president of the Canadian Sociology Association. She is co-author of Youth & Society (2011) and More Than It Seems (2010); author of Children in Canada Today (2016) and Child Poverty in Canada (2010); and co-editor of Sociology (2016). She has done research on child care in Canada and youth in CAF families.
