Only issue for me was that I'm not up on all the Euro slang, but I can't hold it against the author. Well written. Good story. The romance wasn't as contrived as most and more believable than many. The outcome was predictable, but the story was hot, touching and humorous.

Romance - with raunch dressing on the side!

Some Girls Do is a rollicking good read - and at various parts of the story that's 'rollicking' with a decidedly erotic twist. It is also incredibly funny - one episode early in the book had me laughing so hard I must have frightened the neigbours. There are sombre poignant passages as well - but it is never morose or gratuitous in the grief/angst experienced by the two main characters. The heroine, Claire, is a 'nice girl' - but her blog alter-ego 'NiceGirl' is a very different proposition - and in trying to live up to her blog persona, Claire embarks on an adventure that will change her life - and the life of another person as well. Luca is a magnetic hero - and his back story is one with great resonance in Ireland where the plight of Romanian orphans touched many hearts. There are various strands to this book - and a wonderful array of characters both major and minor; all to be delighted in and enjoyed. I read the book in about 3 nights (and it kept me up late on every one!) - and was reluctant to put it down even while realising I'd read the same sentence three times (at 1 a.m. !) and I needed to get some sleep. Thoroughly recommended .

Great overview of how to monetize your Kindle book

I've read several of John Tighe's books, and I think I like this one best. It's short, simple, and easy to read. I don't think there's anything really new here, but the information is presented well. Some of it is possibly over-hyped, like saying a published author can make $10,000, $20,000, or even $50,000 speaking. I don't think that's possible for most writer's - unless you've got one hell of a platform.

That said, there is a lot of useful information packed in this 93 page volume. It's a great starting point for new and experienced authors who are trying to figure out what's next. How do I make a living in this crazy business?

I got the book for 99 cents but even if you have to pay four or five dollars, you're going to get enough good, usable ideas to make your money back several times over.

My thought is buy this book as a jumping off point. Use it to get ideas, then move on to other books that cover the topics you're interested in more detail. Just remember, writing is a process. Every day, and every book, brings you a little closer to your end point. You're end goal as an author is to hang in there, and complete the journey.

Gave me some solid ideas

Gave me some solid ideas for how I can earn more money with my books. As a self-published Amazon author, I know that a big part of the game is trying to explore and leverage as many possible opportunities as I can to monetize my books. Lately I've been looking into all kinds of avenues: foreign rights, Createspace, Audible, and other ideas. I find it helpful to have books like this one which can help me flesh out some of these ideas in greater detail and help me in my career. This book makes some solid suggestions such as bulk book sales and speaking, two things I have very little experience in but very much want to explore.

Bottom line, if you're serious about making money as an author, you need to be creative about how you package, promote, market, and leverage your books. You have to treat it like a business. I appreciate this effort from John, who writes from solid, in-the-trenches real world experience.

Super for the almost intermediate pianist

my small church suddenly needed it piano player. I ended up with the job even though I hadn't played the piano for over 20 years. I struggled with the hymns in the hymnal but eventually have gotten to where I can play most of them if I practice all week. However, I was looking for arrangements that were simple to pick up and beautiful when played in church for the offeratory. This book fit the bill. If you can play him out of the hymnal even though you might have to practice for a while, you'll be able to play these songs easily. The songs are also not as lengthy as I have seen in some books. This works well for me as it does not take very long to collect the offering. Also, if you are a more advanced player, you can easily jazz up the arrangements. I went to a music store and paid $20 for this book.

The layout is pleasing and easy on the eyes; there is plenty of color and decoration; and the table of contents indicates the origins of the tales. The large, dark print surrounded by pleasing white space delivers the stories in a simple, straightforward manner faithful to the different cultural traditions. There is a generic air to the volume, however. Originally published in France, it lists neither retellers nor translators. The border decorations are pedestrian and repetitive, while the full-page, full-color illustrations, though competently rendered in a cartoon style, are a bit crowded and unedifying. The characters' faces are particularly formulaic and lacking in expression. Most of the European standards are here, plus a few less-often anthologized selections (e.g., Andersen's "All's Well That Ends Well" and Perrault's "Ricky Tuftyhead"). A couple of the "Arabian Nights" tales are tossed in, as well. The book's covers were the first things to start falling off,
then it must have gotten throw out because there was barley anything left it.

Very nice book of classic fairy tales

I bought this book when my oldest son was a baby from someone who came to my office selling books. it's a very nice book, large print with beautiful illustrations that he still remembers (he's 16 now). Wonderful book of classic fairy tales

Worth Looking For

This book is simply wonderful! It has the best variety of fairytales in one collection that I've been able to find, including works from the Brothers Grimm, Hans Christian Andersen, and other classics by neither of them (like Red Riding Hood). The illustrations are lovely, and the print is larger. The stories are great for reading to a child, and for a child to read him/herself around 8, 9, or 10 years old. It's beautiful, and the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I wanted it to have even more stories. Unfortunately, it's out of print - but it's worth an out of print search!

This is a collection of interviews with Dyson (Race Rules; Making Malcolm; etc.), the professor, public intellectual and Baptist minister, on topics ranging from homoeroticism and the Bible to jazz and hip-hop. The most prominent emphases are contemporary critical theory and religion, which don't necessarily lend themselves to improvisation. However, the format makes Dyson's reflections more inviting than they might otherwise be to casual readers. If the fresh insights are only occasional, the book is still a useful collation of many contemporary issues--though the occasional selection, like the chapter on rapper Tupac ("Searching for the Black Jesus") suffers equally from excess and partiality--Dyson's Holler if You Hear Me: Searching for Tupac Shakur has already argued the rapper's case.

Controversial, Articulate, Unapologetic

Open Mike is a book that I picked up on accident and I thnak whatever angel was sitting on my shoulder that day. I had never been blessed enough to have been exposed to Dyson before and I was quite surprise about what I found. This man is BAD. He has the same theoretical and intellectual presence as Malcom, Martin, Carmichael, etc. In Open Mike, a series of interviews Dyson gave, I found that I was surprise that anyone could speak this way from the hip. I often wondered if he'd practiced what he had to say. Then I heard him speak at the State of the Black Chruch conference in Detroit, MI 2003. He's for real.
Open Mike is an honest and revealing account of Dyson's life, his thoughts, and the controversies that he's started. No one is safe from this man 's tongue---no one. Pick it up and be enlightened.

Open Mic is Dyson's answer to the esoteric!!!

As a mentee of Dr. Michael Eric Dyson, I can certainly attest to his rhetorical genius, his intellectual compassion, his scholarly depth and his cerebral authority on a wide range of cultural, philosophical and theoretical themes. But as it occurs, many acadamicians (i.e. Adolph Reed) have questioned his scholarship, and even if he is a serious intellectual, suggesting that his writing tends to gravitate toward petty motives that deal with popular culture and the commercialization of societal issues. Nevermind that one of the most noted philosophers, Antonio Gramsci proposed the notion of the "organic intellectual" as one who could arise from the people but never become so esoterically connected to some ebony or ivory academy. That is Dyson--the organic intellectual--and we Dysonians appreciate him as a defining intellectual acrobat regardless of the commentaries put out by PEDANTIC scholars who resist mainstream culture, pretty much because they, themselves, fail to identify with it.
But still, Dyson answers his critics with Open Mike, a scholarly enterprise of the highest order. The book is a collection of conversations on philosophy, race, sex, culture and religion, that definitively evinces the "seriousness" of Dyson's scholarship. Dyson effortlessly registers his deepening intellectual and moral convictions on every subject from poststructuralist theory to the polyrhythmic structures of African American musical traditions and from Nietzsche's view of God to the prism through with Nas analyzed black social plight.
As Mark Anthony Neal stated in the foreword, "Open Mike is a critical beat-down!" I recommend that this scholarly contribution be digested by every intellect for its complex exploration into the various layers and dimensions of black radical discourse, politics and ethics. And I even further, invite all general readers to add this book to their reading appetite, as Dyson's consistent flow and vivid portrayals are sure to delight your thirst for an impassioned discussion of the social dynamics that affect us all.

Outstanding public intellectual

Unlike the first reviewer of Dyson's book who said he was a "pinhead" I find this book an extrodinary review of the social conditions, in which our society subjects us all too. And please, can we not call authors demeaning names when we write reviews??!!! The person who wrote the first review using the word "pinhead" must be an adolescent and sounds jealous and angry. Thanks.
