Good introduction for the layman

This was the main textbook in a course I took on networking and communications. It gives an excellent introduction to the field. It's well-written and easy to understand -- you don't need to be an engineer to grasp the concepts. It also has a lot of explanatory figures that break up the text.

I highly recommended it for anyone who wants a comprehensive overview of modern networking and communications without having to break your back learning math and physics (although it does have appendices for anyone who wants to learn more about the science behind the computer concepts).

The only down side, of course, is the price! However, it does save you from having to search for all of these terms on Wikipedia :-) Plus the book was written by two experts in the field -- no small consideration.

Suboptimally Written. Diagrams in wrong places. Not self-contained an does not tell you what knowledge it assumes that you know.

It is a sub-optimally written textbook. There is not enough diagrams to aid the text make it at least confusing and makes the learning process very inefficient and when there does exist a diagram it is usually place in the page after the explanation as oppose to the same page as the explanation. It makes references in the book to sites and the appendix too often. The purpose a textbook is for the reader to engage with the book and have the book be self contained. However, this textbooks forces the reader to scatter all over the place to look for the information. It ruins both the study and learning mood when reading this book. This is a book that cost a good amount of money. It is expected to be presented in a much more user friendly format than this. This textbook is not worth the value and does not meet the agenda of a $100+ book.

Headmaster Mordred has a surprise for the students at DSA--it's the first ever Parents Day! And Lady Lobelia has written a play for the students to perform. So why are the kids all so worried? Because Wiglaf knows his dad's jokes will be embarrassing, and his mother is sure to bring her cabbage soup. King Ken and Queen Barb are sure to spill Eric's big secret, and Angus has problems of his own. While the students are working through their problems, Worm is stirring up havoc of his own. Wiglaf must keep him from ruining the play they have worked so hard on.

The Dragon Slayers' Academy books are full of good humor and adventure, with this one being no exception. The dialogue is witty, and many readers will enjoy being in on Eric's "secret." Young fans of Harry Potter and older struggling readers alike will enjoy Help! It's Parents Day at DSA, or any of the other books in this series.

Great Series!

My children love reading this book. THe oldest (10) sailed through the series just for fun. The Next (8) easily reads and enjoys them. My youngest (6) is now moving through them at a pace that amazes me. They all enjoy the characters and the story line. I have purchased these to give as gifts to family and friends as well.

They remain controversial to this day. The writer Katherine Anne Porter frequented Niven’s excavations in the Valley of Mexico and based her first published short story, "Mar�a Concepci�n," on her experiences there. She would write that the "Old Man never carried a gun, never locked up his money, sat on political dynamite and human volcanoes and never bothered to answer his slanderers. He bore a charmed life. Nothing would ever happen to him." Niven was planning a book about his experiences, but was unable to complete it because of ill health. Buried Cities, Forgotten Gods is based upon his surviving manuscripts and personal papers.

A primary source for Beatles and especially John Lennon historians

As the 50th anniversary of the Beatles' arrival and first US appearances looms, I found myself searching online for Beatles' memorabilia and stumbled upon this book - for the second time. The first time was in a grocery store in early 1981, just after John Lennon's murder in New York City. I bought the book then, and read it, and probably gave it to some book sale or other.

I almost wish I'd saved it because it's an interesting piece of cultural history, written by Lennon's first wife while he was still alive. Cynthia Powell was a shy but talented art student from the relatively posh Wirral peninsula across the Mersey from Liverpool when she met music-obsessed John Lennon. The book describes her childhood, meeting, courtship and marriage to Lennon. I wasn't especially looking for juicy details so the blandness of the book didn't disappoint me. I suspected the real story was a bit earthier.

I found it interesting that the book was no tell-all hack job but instead a sweet story illustrated with Cynthia's own sketches.

In years to come, the book may serve as a primary source for historians studying Lennon - if there is anything left to study - and his relationship with Cynthia and her own complex feelings for him.
