Metric Pattern Cutting for Women's Wear, by Winifred Aldrich

Metric Pattern Cutting for Women’s Wear, first published in 1975, provides a straightforward introductory book for students beginning courses in flat pattern cutting.

This fifth edition continues to offer an introduction to the principles of pattern cutting, with a range of good basic blocks and examples of their application to garments.

New for this edition is the inclusion of colour to help students recognize the different sections of the book and to enhance the garment illustrations? Colour illustrations also offer a new dimension to the updated material on computer-aided design and the CAD chapter now provides students with a clear guide to the technology.

The size charts have been revised to reflect the changes in body sizing, the co-ordination with European size charts and to the way that clothes are now marketed to different sectors. The great expansion of casual wear has led to the growth of 'flat cutting' with no darting, and the section devoted to this type of cutting has been further expanded.

This best-selling textbook with its tried-and-tested presentation of authoritative text and clear diagrams remains the essential purchase for students of fashion and design.

Love this Pattern Drafting book!
By Dintas Gimfil Pikil Joyce
I bought this book having compared it to Helen Joseph Armstrong in the bookstore. I found it less bulky and easier to find patterns and ideas because the layout is more condensed and not spread over 500 pages. The amount of information in there is phenomenal. I have Dorothy Moore's Pattern Drafting and Dressmaking book as well, but I keep coming back to Aldrich! I drafted her skirt pattern and used pattern drafting principles in her book-and the skirt was the most perfectly form fitting 7-gored skirt I have ever made! I plan to get all of her books on Pattern Drafting. The only reason I haven't given it 5 stars is because the diagrams aren't labeled Fig1, Fig2 etc-so sometimes I get confused as to which diagram the instructions refer to. But it is not an insurmountable difficulty.

Practical and usefull to make your own patterns
By M. L. Figueras
After using this book for some time, I can now recommend it gladly. It is a book for those who know how to sew, but need to get their patterns in magazines or other publications. With this book, if you are familiar with the metric sistem (to do this with inches and all its crazy partitions would be madness, i think) you will be able to take your own measures, and construct a whole range of different models that fit you just perfect. It is a method to learn how to draw the basic block patterns and then how to modify them to construct all the variations. All your basic wardrobe is there, including bodyshapers, bikinies, jeans, tracksuits, all kind of skirts and trousers, jersey and tailored dresses and jackets... well, it is really complete. I am so enthusiastic about this book I just bought the one for men's wear, to be able to construct the perfect pants for my husband. A must for any home dressmaker.

Addendum: I am working with the book and have found two big problems so far. There are two patterns with side panels which I cannot figure out, for the sake of me. One is the Semi-Fitted princess line dress, in page 116 (where do the side panels go???) and the other is the Fitted Casual Jacket (where do I draw the panel lines????) Maybe these references are somewhere in the book, but I have been going around and around and I cannot find where to draw these lines). If somebody knows, I would gladly listen!!!

Review
"The authors have done an outstanding job of capturing the essential skills and applied theories of mathematics, physics, biology and chemistry that are pertinent to the training needs of workers in biotechnology. The information contained in these chapters represent a wealth of basic, practical knowledge that previously was not readily available in print, but more likely was acquired 'on the job'," -- Dr. Gail Baughman, MiraCosta College "The texts we have found for our biotechnology theory course are either too deep (molecular biology) or too shall (gee whiz). It is ironic that all three of the internships I have done in biotech companies have asked for the kinds of skills found in this text, but no other text seems to be available like it. I think that the book will be a best seller." -- Bill Thieman, Ventura College "The use of many worked out examples make this test especially strong as a reference for the technician." -- David B. Shaw, Madison Area Technical College

From the Inside Flap
Preface

This is an exciting time to work in biotechnology. The Human Genome Project is generating fundamental genetic information at a breathtaking rate; basic research findings are being applied in medicine, agriculture, and the environment; and a variety of new biotechnology products are moving into production. Behind each of these accomplishments are teams of scientists and technicians whose everyday work makes such achievements possible.

For the past twelve years, we have been working with students who are beginning their careers as technicians and bench scientists in biotechnology laboratories. In order to best assist our students, we, and our colleagues elsewhere in the United States, have explored what entry level biotechnologists do at work and what abilities they need to perform this work. We have been impressed with the complexity and diversity of technical roles and responsibilities, and the importance of the skills that bench workers bring to their jobs. This book emerges partly from our experiences working with students and our explorations into the nature of the laboratory workplace*.

This book also results from our personal experiences in the laboratory. As graduate students we struggled to master the "laboratory lore" that was passed among "post-docs" and graduate students in a not always coherent chain. Some of what is in this book is the systematic introduction to laboratory lore that we wish we had received.

The result of our efforts is not a laboratory manual; this text contains few step-by-step procedures. Nor is it a book about molecular genetics, immunology, or cell culture—there are already many excellent specialized texts and manuals on these topics. This book rather is a textbook/reference manual on basic laboratory methods and the principles that underlie those methods. These basics are important to every biotechnologist, regardless of whether one is cloning DNA or purifying proteins, whether one is working in an academic setting or is employed in a company.

We intend this book to assist students preparing to become biotechnology laboratory professionals, those who already work in the laboratory, and biology students who are learning to operate effectively in the laboratory. Others who may also find this book helpful include high school teachers and their advanced students, and industry trainers. We have endeavored to make this text accessible to beginning college students with a limited science and math background. Some sections, such as the math review in Unit III, could be skipped or skimmed by more experienced readers. At the same time as we tried to make this book practical and accessible, we also endeavored to provide enough background theory so that readers will understand the methods they use and will be prepared to solve the unavoidable problems that arise in any laboratory.

Although we focus on the biotechnology laboratory, the majority of topics we cover are of importance to individuals working in any biology laboratory. A few topics, such as quality regulations and standards, are included because they are important for those working in biotechnology companies. As biotechnology companies mature, their focus shifts from research into commercial production. As this maturation occurs, scientists and technicians often find that they must add terms like "GMP", "ISO 9000", and "quality systems" to their technical vocabulary. This book therefore weaves a conversation about regulations and standards into many chapters.

We are aware that the basic methods in this book (such as how to mix a solution or weigh a sample) are less glamorous than learning how to manipulate DNA, or how to clone a sheep. However, we also know that, in practice, the most sophisticated and remarkable accomplishments of biotechnology are possible only when the most basic laboratory work is done properly.

*The results of some of these discussions about the biotechnology workplace are summarized in the National Voluntary Skill Standards Documents in Agricultural Biotechnology and the Biosciences. (FFA, "National Voluntary Occupational Skill Standards: Agricultural Biotechnology Technician," National FFA Foundation, Madison, WI, 1994 and "Gateway to the Future, Skill Standards for the Bioscience Industry," Education Development Center, Newton, MA, Inc., 1995.)

By Gerald J. Nora
When I first started work in a lab as an undergrad, I would often learn of crucial tricks after I had already messed up a procedure and lost an hour or more of work. It's ironic how dependent molecular biologists are on that most ancient means of communication: oral tradition.
When I took a biochem lab, I was introduced to the Seidman and Moore text, which is a fantastic teaching source. For the beginner, this book has chapters on basic units of measurement and mathematics, laboratory organization and regulation (including the government bodies which oversee lab safety), writing standards, and web etiquette. No stone is unturned! Even after one gets the basics mastered, this book has tables on plastics and buffers, showing how they react to heat, light, and other critical data--my biochemistry instructor was even suprised by some of the information on plasticware! This is a companion for one's career in the lab.

Good Biotech Lab Book but Outdated
By rwcurry
This book does cover the basics. However, if you can afford it, get their second edition. It is more up to date and has the same and more information. I know this because I have both of them. But if you are tight on your funds and still need a biotech lab book. This is definately not a bad choice.

Informative

This book is a great resource. I plan on using it for a reference.

It is a little dry and unengaging.

It has many important facts and much useful information

Not the basis for the new TV show of the same name but a fun read nonetheless
By Cheryl Stout
I knew this book wasn't the basis of the new television show by the same name before I started reading it but the synopsis sounded interesting so I thought I'd give it a try.

I watched the first show of the new ABC television series last week starring Kiefer Sutherland and loved it so I went searching on Amazon to see if it was perhaps based on an existing book. No such luck but I did find this book.

The TV show is character based (how could it not be starring Sutherland) while this story is based more on the mechanics and "what ifs" of some disaster happening while most of the country's leadership is gathered in one place. And then it focuses on the hunt for the terrorists that did the dirty deed.

I enjoyed this book although at times it seemed implausible but then that's why I read fiction. If I want truly impossible, I watch the evening news or watch the presidential debates.

This was an enjoyable quick read with enough twists and turns to hold my interest and just enough character development to care about what happened to at least some of the characters.

When they get stuck in a hotel room together, Chloe decides to accept the gift the Fates have bestowed upon her. (Tip: a bold lip color does wonders for seduction.) "Do you want me to kick the crap out of that seat back and tray table for you?"

Chloe Masterson looked over at Window Guy, the man that the Goddess of Economy Airline Seating had seen fit to plaster against her right side. The upper-arm contact had started in Seattle and lasted until Chicago. Thanks to bad weather, their scheduled forty-five-minute layover in the Windy City was now pushing two hours, and had featured a long wait in the plane deicing line and then a "that didn't sound good" thunk. The plane was now sitting motionless on a vast expanse of snowy tarmac and they'd officially hit the six-hour mark of their touching-a-stranger marathon fifteen minutes ago.

It wasn't his fault, really. Window Guy had broad shoulders, so the contact was incidental and, in a weird way, kind of comforting. She liked that the sleeve of his gray wool suit was soft and warm against her skin.

And okay, maybe she was leaning against him a little more than was .strictly necessary. Not because he smelled of spicy soap and warm man—which was a pretty wicked combination—but because he smelled better than the guy to her left. The gag-inducing aroma of stale sweat, onions and something else she couldn't quite place but preferred to leave a mystery had worn her down about twenty minutes after boarding. That's when Chloe had decided that the comfort of her left elbow wasn't worth permanent olfactory damage and had conceded the battle of the joint armrest to him.

Damn middle seat.

"Sony?"

Despite their close confines, she and Window Guy hadn't exchanged more than the official "that's-my-seat" gesture of air travelers the world over before he'd awkwardly shuffled past her to sit down. After that, he'd pulled his laptop out and tapped away at the keys like a good little company automaton while she'd worked her way through a few chapters of a gently-used Stephen King novel. She'd been so engrossed in her book, she hadn't noticed that at some point he'd put the laptop away and moved on to reading the offerings from the seat pocket in front of him.

And that wasn't all she hadn't noticed.

Now that she was actually looking at him, his breach of their companionable silence was even more surprising. Because Window Guy was kind of sexy. Bedroom eyes the color of whiskey and twice as potent. A strong jaw and a straight nose. His brown hair was short enough to be business-appropriate, but long enough to get mussed up under the right circumstances. And that mouth! As she took her fill of him, it pulled slightly up at the right corner in an easy smirk that was hot as hell. He was the clean-cut kind of handsome that came with no visible neck tattoos and an expertly-knotted blue silk tie that bespoke gainful employment.

Men like him didn't talk to women like her. He was way too…corporate. And she was…not.

At her question, he raised his chin at the worn gray vinyl seat back in front of her. "You've been giving that chair dirty looks for the last twenty minutes, and then you sighed," he explained.

"I did?"

Window Guy nodded. "The sigh was pretty loud, actually. It disturbed my reading."

"Oh. Well. I'm sorry that my sigh threw off your concentration." Chloe sent a meaningful glance toward the airline safety pamphlet on his lap.

"The damage is done." He picked up the tri-fold piece of card stock. "It was just getting good, too. After the cabin depressurized, the plane crashed and the passengers were proceeding in an orderly fashion for their lives!"

Huh. She hadn't expected funny. Hot guys rarely had to develop such plebeian talents. "Sounds intense."

"You're telling me. I was really enjoying it until the author got all kinky and made the heroine take off her high heels before she used the inflatable slide. I think he might be a foot fetishist." He shoved the pamphlet back in the seat pocket in front of him before he met her gaze with a teasing glint in his amber eyes. "Wow. Spoiler alert. I hope I didn't give too much away."

"No, I appreciate the recommendation. I'll be sure to tell my book club about it."

His grin was practiced, but appealing. "I'm Ben."

Uh-oh. Time to nip this in the bud. "Well, Ben. You're a very handsome guy, and I appreciate the effort, because I'm sure that maneuvering a sober pickup with only a safety card, an in-flight magazine, and an airsickness bag as props is a challenge that few men could meet. But don't waste all your sweet, panty-dropping material on me. Save some of that A-game for Stewardess Barbie over there."

They both looked at the perky blonde flight attendant who'd been making doe eyes at Ben since he'd boarded. Right on cue, she twirled her ponytail and glanced away coyly.

Ben shifted, trying to arrange his large frame more comfortably in the tiny chair—a futile cause. "Let's get one thing straight here, if this had been a pickup, we'd already be—" he eyed his Rolex—so clich "—three minutes into you becoming an airplane-bathroom sex convert. Let the record show that we are both still safely buckled into our designated seats, ipso facto, I clearly wasn't flirting with you."

Ignoring the frisson down her spine—legal jargon always had that effect on her—Chloe raised a skeptical eyebrow.

"Okay, I was kinda flirting. But, it was completely recreational. Minor league stuff."

"Oh, please! Foot fetish references? That is gateway flirting. If I hadn't called you out, you'd have escalated to the hard stuff—asking me my astrological sign and telling me how beautiful my eyes are."

He laughed, and Chloe ignored the flare of pride at having elicited the sexy, rumbling sound. Not that she was flirting, either, mind you.

"Well, it's hardly my fault that your eyes really are beautiful. Emerald green, with golden flecks that sparkle when you roll them like that because you think I'm being cheesy."

"Oh. Well that's probably because you are being cheesy. At least the safety pamphlet pickup was original."

"Original enough to get your name?"

"Chloe," she relented.

"Nice to meet you, Chloe." He offered his hand again, and this time she accepted it.

His palm was wide and his fingers were long. He didn't molest her hand; it was just an acceptable, firm shake between new acquaintances. Even so, a phantom warmth lingered after he'd relinquished his grip, the kind that buzzed up her arm and sort of made her wish he had molested her hand, at least a little. Chloe rubbed her tingling palm against the thigh of her jeans.

His gaze held steady on hers and his focus was flattering, almost seductive. If you went for that whole slick-successful-businessman-in-a-five-thousand-dollar-suit look. Which, she reminded herself, she didn't. Not anymore.

For the most part, her tiny diamond nose stud and purple highlights were enough to warn corporate wunderkinds that they had nothing in common with her.

But then she remembered that she no longer had purple highlights. She'd dyed her piecey, deconstructed bob for her sister's wedding. Right now it was a respectable, boring, normal shade of mahogany that skimmed her jaw before angling a bit lower in the front. The dye job was her attempt at a peace offering to her family. She just hoped it would be enough.

"…so if you look at it that way, cheese could be considered a high form of flattery, you know?"

Ben's voice snapped her out of a flashback of the most recent guilt-laden, middle-name-invoking phone call with her mother.

"What? Sorry. I wasn't listening."

Ben's grin was endearingly self-deprecating. "Tough crowd."

"It's not you." Chloe shoved her offensively monotone hair behind her ears. "Going back to Buffalo has put me in a rotten mood."

"That doesn't seem fair. What's Buffalo ever done to you?"

The derisive laugh slipped out before Chloe could stop it. "Now there's a loaded question."

Ben cocked a questioning eyebrow.

"I'm going to see my family." She didn't add "for the first time in four years," because that was the scary part, the part that turned her stomach into a churning pit of nerves and dread. "My little sister's getting m-married," she said, forcing the word out. Man, was it hot in here? She reached up and twisted the overhead air vent open.

"Oh! Well, that should be…" Ben paused in a way that let Chloe know she hadn't managed to hide her true feelings on the matter. He corrected midcourse, "no fun at all. Rings are like tiny shackles. Screw love. That's what I say."

It was a sweet attempt at a save, but Chloe was too far down the well to grab the rope.

"Weddings…" Suck. Wreck relationships. Ruin lives. She flipped through her mental thesaurus before going with, "aren't really my thing." She tugged at the front of her black T-shirt, but couldn't quite shake the sudden sensation of a phantom Swarovski-crystalencrusted, sweetheart-necklined noose tightening around her rib cage.

Oblivious to her cold sweat and racing heart, Ben continued to aim for small talk. "It's a good thing you decided to fly in to Buffalo a few days early. This storm is really wreaking havoc on our arrival time."

Chloe shook her head. "I'm not early. She's getting married tomorrow."

Instead of the nauseating cheer that announcement had been garnering since her sister had started flashing her showy, four-carat diamond engagement ring around social media, Ben had the decency to look puzzled. Chloe appreciated that.

"Your sister's getting married on a Thursday in January?"

"You are only surprised by that fact because you've never met her," she informed him. "Anyone who knows my sister would expect nothing less from her than to inconvenience her entire network of family and friends by making them take a day off of work. Can't let a petty thing like the schedules of four hundred people interfere with her narcissistic, lifelong fantasy of having a winter wonderland-themed wedding on her birthday."

Ben nodded. "So you and your sister are close, then?" he deadpanned.

Chloe's smile caught her by surprise, but at least she could breathe again. He'd talked her down without even being aware of it. "You're a funny guy, Ben."

"It's a gift." He shrugged with faux modesty and loosened his sapphire-colored silk necktie. The hint of di-shevelment made Chloe's breath hitch, but this time it wasn't the result of a chest full of anxiety. This feeling was warmer, and a little bit tingly.

She hadn't dated a man in a suit since Patrick—hadn't even looked at one. She preferred bad boys, the disreputable kind that parents didn't approve of. So why was Mr. Future Businessman of America giving her a serious case of the wobblies?

She didn't get a chance to scrutinize her odd reaction further. They both glanced up as an electronic chime sounded from the speaker above Chloe's head.

"Good evening, passengers. This is your captain speaking. Due to a mechanical issue and the impending storm, our scheduled flight has been canceled."

A collective groan filled the plane.

"Your flight crew will be handing out discount cards valid for a stay at any Value Inn location, a proud partner of Jetopia. Your boarding pass will be valid for tomorrow's rescheduled flight to Buffalo, weather permitting. If you have further questions or are unable to make the 8:00 a.m. flight, please speak with a member of your flight crew. Again, we thank you for choosing Jetopia, and we apologize for the inconvenience."

"What does he mean, tomorrow?" There was a definite note of panic in her voice, but Chloe was proud she'd managed not to shriek.

"I'm going to go out on a limb and guess he means the day after today."

"Hey, Ben?"

"Yeah?"

"That thing I said about you being funny? I take it back."

He waved it off. "As long as handsome panty-dropper still stands."

She couldn't even appreciate the joke—reality was seeping in. "I can't be stuck in Chicago. I need to get to Buffalo. Tonight" The wedding rehearsal and dinner were this evening. Her family would be expecting her.

Ben directed her gaze to the small oval window behind his head, and Chloe caught an ominous glimpse of the snow flying outside. "Better start walking then."

Chloe took a deep breath of musty cabin air tinged with eau de Aisle Guy's pits. Trapped. She glanced over as Ben liberated his iPhone from the breast pocket of his suit, thumbs flying over the screen as he, like so many other passengers, shared the details of this latest development with whoever was on the other end of the text message.

Chloe couldn't bring herself to do the same. She hadn't even arrived yet and she'd already failed to meet her family's expectations. Not an auspicious start to her big reunion tour.

With another sigh, she flopped back in her chair, glaring once again at the seat in front of her. She was stuck in Chicago. With boring hair.

And an angry clan of Mastersons ready to pounce on her for the latest example of how she was ruining the hallowed family name.

This day could not possibly get any worse.

"You're doing it again."

"Doing what?" she asked, her eyes never wavering from the cracked vinyl seat back.

"Sighing maniacally," Ben explained.

"You seem awfully intent on the emotional health of complete strangers." She slanted him a look that bordered on caustic. "You're not a shrink, are you? Because my talking to a shrink would make my mother ridiculously happy."

"And how does that make you feel?"

In a defensive maneuver, Chloe crossed her arms over her chest. "Okay, fine. You're a little funny."

Ben pumped his fist in silent victory.

"And for the record, I was thinking about how Neil Diamond has ruined my life."

He shot her a surprised glance. "Really? I was wondering what he was up to these days."

She tipped her head in Ben's direction without breaking contact with the headrest. "It's a very sad story about a crappy alarm clock, a pathological hatred of 'Sweet Caroline', and an unfortunate mix-up involving the buttons marked off and snooze!"

Ben leaned back in his own chair. "Fucking Neil Diamond," he said, and it was so understated, so unexpectedly perfect, that she laughed.

"You're pretty calm about this."

"About taking Neil Diamond's name in vain? Don't let the suit fool you. I'm surprisingly controversial."

Chloe shook her head, refusing to admit she was charmed. "Can't you just be pissed off about the flight being canceled? Like a normal person?"

His shrug was philosophical. "We're not getting to Buffalo tonight. Not worth getting worked up about if it's out of your control."

"That's very Zen of you," she said, though it wasn't a compliment.

"Fortune cookies," Ben sermonized, "are not only delicious, but full of extremely practical wisdom."

At that moment, Stewardess Barbie appeared beside Aisle Guy and her massive breasts exerted a gravitational pull on the eyes of the entire row, Chloe's included.

How did anything that top-heavy stay upright?

The flight attendant glanced down at her clipboard and Chloe couldn't help but notice that her glittery pink eye shadow was creased and caking.

Chloe fought the urge to tell her about the new eye shadow primer that Titanium Beauty had just come out with. It was oil-free and did an incredible job of keeping shadow in its place all day. And that glitter was best saved for evening events because mattes and neutral shimmers worked best in daylight or fluorescent light. Also that with her skin tone, peachier shades would be much more flattering than pinks…

"Gordon Hinky?"

Aisle Guy's gaze was stuck in the general vicinity of their messenger's more. pneumatic assets. Rolling her eyes at the predictability of testosterone, Chloe held her breath as he raised his arm.

Barbie sped through the "sorry for the inconvenience" script in a bored monotone before flicking her gaze to more promising territory. "And that must make you Benjamin."

Gak.

At least Ben had enough class to meet her eyes when he confirmed the obvious. "It's just Ben."

"Well, Just Ben, here's your Value Inn voucher."

Ben reached past her to accept the glossy slip of paper and Chloe caught the clean, masculine scent of him.

"It's good for fifteen percent off. There's a map on the back detailing the closest locations to the airport. Someone will be at the gate to direct you to the taxi and shuttle stands, but if you need any help finding your way or, you know, with anything, just say the word. I'd be more than happy to help you."

The breathy offer was very Marilyn Monroe.

"Jetopia apologizes for the delay, but we hope you'll give us the chance to make it up to you. We'd love to have you fly with us again." After a long moment, she tore her gaze away from Ben and focused on Chloe.

Sassy, sexy and lots of fun!
By kari
I caught the first chapter of this book last year when it was entered in Harlequin's So You Think You Can Write contest and it blew me away with how much it sucked me in. It was no surprise that it got published. Not quite a year later and I had to get it and see the rest of the story.

I was only going to read the first chapter at night then head to bed. NOPE! The book and great characters had other ideas. I couldn't put it down. Just one more chapter and then I'll go to bed. Yeah, pipe dream. Each chapter ended in such a way that I needed to read just ONE more.

What had me turning the page over and over were not only the great, unique characters and their witty, sometimes outrageous banter, but the great storyline itself. I love the Pretend Marriage trope and this one did double duty. Yet intermingled with the snappy dialogue and fun, flirty action was deep emotion that reached inside reminding us that we've all had those disappointments and let-downs too.

Taryn Leigh Taylor is a new author to watch. With writing like this, I feel she'll be a new favorite not only for me but for many a romance reader.

lighthearted, and fun
By paula legate
There are days when you just want to read a lighthearted, funny book. This was perfect. I really enjoyed it.

Chloe was on her way home to addend her sister's wedding. she has not been home in years. She feels she has always been a disappointment to her family. On the flight she meets Ben. He is a funny guy that attempts to make her laugh. He is also Sexy as heck. After they have sat on the run way for hours, the flight gets canceled. Everyone is handed a hotel voucher but her. Come to find out she and Ben share the same last name, and the airlines thought they were married. Almost a hour later, she is finally handed her own. When she gets to the hotel, all she wants is a hot bath, and to go to bed. When she opens the door to her room, she sees Ben sitting on her bed. The hotel also thought they were married. At this point there are no more rooms, so they share. I love the way the two get along. The banter back in forth was entertaining.

Ben agrees to go to the wedding with her. He is in town for a business meeting. This is a meeting that could give him the promotion he has worked so hard for. He thought he bombed the meeting. The next morning the old guy from the meeting knocks on his hotel door. Ben had just stepped out of the shower. Chloe answered the door wrapped in a sheet.... How do you explain that???? So Ben said I would like you to meet my wife. I have to say she played her role well. Her family also thought they were engaged. Throughout the story the two are pretending to be married, or engaged. What is real, and what is fake? This is a must read book, when you are in the mood for a lighthearted book that will leave you smiling.

Humorous and Light-hearted!

Kiss and Makeup begins with Chloe and Ben meeting on an airplane that is laid over in Chicago due to bad weather. They have the same last name - but no relation to each other - and are forced to share a hotel room when they're mistaken as husband and wife. And so the comedy of errors begins in this fun and flirty romance.

Chloe abandoned a privileged life with her rich parents in order to grow into the person she wanted to be (free spirited make-up artist with colorful hair, body piercings and tattoos). Ben is chasing after a privileged lifestyle having grown up with little, and in doing so is denying the person he is meant to be. Somehow these two lost souls find each other and really shine together.

I giggled a lot while reading this story, and I felt emotionally invested by the end when the climax came. But the smexy scenes - though plentiful - were a bit on the light side and short. However, a story that makes me laugh as much as this one did deserves the full four stars.

There were a few parts of the story that felt a bit rushed to me, and the overall storyline is predictable. Sometimes that's just what the doctor ordered. It's a great beach read that will have you smiling from beginning to end.

I appreciate the free copy in exchange for an honest review!

9/11: The Ultimate Truth, by Laura Knight-Jadczyk

In the years since the 9/11 attacks, dozens of books have sought to explore the truth behind the official version of events that day - yet to date, none of these publications has provided a satisfactory answer as to WHY the attacks occurred and who was ultimately responsible for carrying them out. Taking a broad, millennia-long perspective, Laura Knight-Jadczyk and Joe Quinn's 9/11: The Ultimate Truth uncovers the true nature of the ruling elite on our planet and presents new and ground-breaking insights into just how the 9/11 attacks played out. 9/11: The Ultimate Truth makes a strong case for the idea that September 11, 2001 marked the moment when our planet entered the final phase of a diabolical plan that has been many, many years in the making. It is a plan developed and nurtured by successive generations of ruthless individuals who relentlessly exploit the negative aspects of basic human nature to entrap humanity as a whole in endless wars and suffering in order to keep us confused and distracted to the reality of the man behind the curtain. Drawing on historical and genealogical sources, Knight-Jadczyk and Quinn eloquently link the 9/11 event to the modern-day Israeli-Palestinian conflict. They also cite the clear evidence that our planet undergoes periodic natural cataclysms, a cycle that has arguably brought humanity to the brink of destruction in the present day. For its no nonsense style in cutting to the core of the issue and its sheer audacity in refusing to be swayed or distracted by the morass of disinformation that has been employed by the Powers that Be to cover their tracks, 9/11: The Ultimate Truth can rightly claim to be THE definitive book on 9/11 - and what that fateful day's true implications are for the future of mankind. The new Second Edition of 9/11: The Ultimate Truth has been updated with new material detailing the real reasons for the collapse of the World Trade Center towers, the central role played by agents of the state of Israel in the attacks, and how the arrogant Bush government is now forced to dance to the Zionists' tune.

The Squirrel and the Hawk
By B. Kopenhaver
9/11 The Ultimate Truth, by Laura Jadcyzk-Knight and Joe Quinn is a four-hundred-page tome on the events surrounding 9/11. It's an insightful read and very well written with data and examples being pulled from an extremely wide variety of literature. From history, to psychology, to other 9/11 research it really runs the gambit; takes everything mixes it together, heats it up to 325 Degree Celsius, and yields a delicious and nutritious meal for the brain.

It begins with the events surrounding 9/11 themselves, specific focus being on the Pentagon Strike, and works backwards to point out every flaw in the Official Conspiracy Theory. 19 Arabs, half of which still are alive, supposedly hijack four planes with little more then box cutters and threats and then proceed to execute some of the most complex flight manuvers in history. Not to mention the total stand down given to our military who's SOP is to intercept and escort or shoot down planes that disable their transponders and cease communication. My favorite sticking point is that this procedure was executed flawlessly 67 times in 2001, yet on Sept 11th it just didn't happen.

From there it goes deep into our history, for without it, we cannot understand the present. Jadcyzk-Knight goes where many have gone before, into the labyrinth, facing the demons of our past and the myriad of lies used to conceal and barracade the truth from sight. She begs, "Who Wrote the Bible - and why?", traces Jewish genetics, and exposes the secret history of an ancient empire which has everything to do with what's happening today. There's glimpses of the Trojan War, mythology, and an entire secret history of our world which has been hidden from sight.

We then move into the source of the problem: Ponerology, A Science on the Nature of Evil. Ponerology posits that evil is not some obscure, ephemeral idea, but a living force that takes form in 4-6% of humans who lack a conscience: Psychopaths. These beings cannot even be described as human because they do not have the capability to judge right from wrong. They feel only a primative hunger, a drive to secure 'something' though what it is may range from riches to blood to control over others. They are the vampires that have been with us since time immemorial. They range in intellect from dismal to genius, just as we do, and those who have the gift of mind can use it as a weapon to enslave and corrupt the rest of humanity.

She demonstrates that those in power now, today are likely the puppets of a cabal that run the show. The true puppet masters always hide in the shadows, pulling the strings, acting as minences grises (trusted advisor) without taking the spotlight. The control the media, many governments, and the military industrial establishment. They fear only one thing: Exposer. If mankind were to accept he was and has been ruled by Those Without Conscience he would shed his chains and demand justice. If he knew that his religion, his government, his economy was infected with a plague of consciencelessness he would stop dead in his tracks and begin to figure out a way to solve the problem. IF.

And that's where we come in.

Yesterday, as I was leaving work, I had just finished reading the end of the book and I saw a hawk fall from a tree not ten feet from me. I went to take a picture, and as I did he jumped back into the tree. I circled to get a better view, and then I saw it, a squirrel doggedly keeping the tree between himself and the bird, chit chit chiting and shaking it's tail. The bird looked at the squirrel as only one thing: food. And that is how the psychopaths that run this world view us. They may not eat us, but they definitely drain our bank accounts, our emotional lives, our very ability to live as we would choose, and they trap us in this energy mill that amounts to nothing more then a hierarchy designed to keep them on top of everyone.

9-11 was just another turn of the dial on the control system. Another tweak, designed to induce fear, stress, and anxiety on a population meant to be kept under control and without will. The truth is out there, you just haveta look for it. This book was definitely one of the best explanations I've ever read.

The only book you need on understanding what really happened
By CyberVigilantes
This is undeniably the most important book on what really happened on September 11th 2001. LJK and Quinn objectively look at who benefited the most from these events and using publicly available research, piece together the most likely turn of events on that day. It was the day that changed the world in which we live. Since 9/11 there has been an accelerating clampdown on the human rights, freedom of speech and privacy of every individual on this planet.

That the current US administration had forewarning of this event is without doubt to anyone who isn't spell-bound by the main-stream-co-opted press. What is rarely discussed, is the involvement of Israeli intelligence services, how Israel is benefiting from the war in Iraq, Afghanistan and future proposed Middle East invasions. LJK and Quinn present compelling arguments, with a unique historical investigation into the formation of the state of Israel and its Zionist ambitions. This is combined with research on the psychopathic individuals and groups that would be capable of committing such horrific crimes. Together the smoke clears and true perpetrators of this outrageous attack are clear for all to see.

The disguise of a powerful elite
By Giovanni Vignoli
This is an excellent book about 9-11. At least I haven't seen anything like that around, and it's actually two books into one, and so more food for thought here than one could ever have expected.

There's a priceless time-line analysis full of details, and one in particular that you can't miss, 'the saga of babs and ted'. Then it goes from technicalities to the core of the event itself, by passing through the labyrinth of history, and the question about how and why all this could have happened. The second part of the book starts with a quote from Allan Bloom's, 'The Closing of the American Mind', that tells us a lot about the kind of freaks hiding behind the current War on Terror, against all of us:

"The most successful tyranny is not the one that uses force to assure uniformity but the one hat removes the awareness of other possibilities, that makes it seem inconceivable that other ways are visible, that removes the sense that there is an outside."
