A great young adult novel about women being owned and fighting the justice system.

I enjoyed the series. It talk a lot about domestic violence and women rights. I enjoyed the way each of these women endured and conquered.
Some people talked about how slowly the romances developed. These were teenagers and since I have a teenager I would hope a real relationship would take a while to happen. They should take their time in becoming friends before moving on. It has magic and adventure.

This series was really fun to read

This series was really fun to read. In fact, I read the whole series in less than a week! Five very strong women face a cruel world where men posses and use magic while women are owned and used for the magic in their blood. Through their journey, they discover their worth as human beings and fight to change their world for the better.

Liked the first, really liked the second, the third wasn't that great, and the 4th was just okay. Weird pacing at times through the books, some scenes seemed to drag on forever and other times, it wish it would just slow down and enjoy the moment. Takes many of the character couples forever to get together. Very clean series as far as sexual content. I would probably recommend to buy the first two books, but stop right after the tournament winner is announced.

NOT ENOUGH DEPTH

Disappointed. Thought it would incorporate more autobiographical or biographical depth of the man and add a more personal view or discussion of lyrics- like the poetry they are-what they mean or could mean based on Mr. Cohen's life experience. I know when I hear Leonard Cohen's lyrics, I WANT to know what, where, and why he used THOSE words or phrases...while my mind conjures up images of a person in those situations. This seemed more a review of works ie acknowledging for many works, Mr. Cohen's favorite theme of love. I think that is a GIVEN....and relatively superficial. I do not think Mr. Ratcliff presented much of the mystique that is Leonard Cohen. Good title which is what motivated me to buy it....but no underlying content.

The legend at his best!!

A very interesting and informative biography of one of the best writers ever to come out of Canada. I have been a fan of this literary genius, ever since I read Selected poems, and I have every song he ever recorded. Leonard Cohen is one of a kind...and once he gets you under his spell, you are hooked for life. Truly a poetic and lyrical treasure. I highly recommend this book to fans and non-fans alike. You will not be disappointed.

an effectively claustrophobic work

My Petition for More Space is a quiet book that effectively conveys the results of overpopulation. Hersey's greatest accomplishment in this work is the amazing creation of a claustrophobic world in which people literally cannot get away from one another. With simple, strong language, Hersey portrays this world and its suffocating influence on everyone, as seen through the eyes of the troubled yet insightful narrator. For a novel that does not feature much action, Petition packs a lot of tension and drama. My chief complaint: the ending, though darkly witty, is a bit weak. Overall, this is a short, enjoyably taut work.

Waiting in lines

The story takes place during the course of a day where the protagonist is standing in line to present a petition (for more space, naturally). The line is blocks long and four columns wide, and people are so tightly packed that one cannot turn and can see only the persons on either side (and the backs of the heads of those in front). The book chronicles this person's interactions with the people around him. The presentation of the petition is almost secondary to the relationships formed in line. It is not a great book but it is a quick read with some interesting insights into increasingly superficial relationships formed with neighbors of circumstance.

I loved this book

I loved this book! Laughed out loud quite a few times, which doesn't happen that often with most books.
I really felt that the writer is giving us a good look at how many of us feel when confronted with loneliness, especially when we are supposed to be having the time of our lives (living in a beautiful city, pursuing your dreams....). And she is giving us a look that isn't masked by ego.
So the book mostly has a lighthearted tone and is a very easy enjoyable read, but that extra undercurrent of emotion, really makes it worthwhile!

An amusing read that will have you longing to pack your bags

At the age of 41, and experiencing something of a mid life crisis, writer Rachael Weiss decided to leave behind her life in Australia and move permanently to Prague, lured by the thought of "cobbled streets, midnight-blue evenings, snowflakes and cheap beer". In the end she would last three years and the book charts her journey from giddy adoration for all things Prague to disenchantment with the communist bureaucracy, unfriendly locals and her inability to find a well paying job.

Weiss has a chatty writing style and a gift for anecdotes. The first half of the book is particularly strong. It catapults the reader into the Czech capital and is frequently amusing. Gradually over the second half of the book Weiss becomes a little - dare I say it? - whiney and I got tired of hearing about her frustrated libido. But overall the book strikes a good a balance between a travelogue and a personal memoir and it definitely had me longing to revisit Prague.

If you've enjoyed this book, I recommend Penelope Green's trilogy about living in Italy (start with When in Rome: Chasing la dolce vita] and also Sarah Turnbull's story about moving to Paris: [Almost French: Love and a New Life in Paris].

I understand that Weiss is now living in Dublin and I hope that there will eventually be a book about her experiences there! She's a fun writer.

Prague an expatriate's dream

Who hasn't dreamt of starting afresh, new country, new friends but been too scared to try it? Rachel describes a journey from Australia to Prague. She leaves behind her only dependent a cat and travels to her ancestral home. Expectations are high for a life of creativity, fun and lack of responsibility. She realizes she needs friends, a job, a reason to be relevant to the community and a life partner. The background of Prague, the hiking, the Spanish Synagogue, the night culture the Charles bridge on the longest day as the sun rises are all beautifully described. The bureaucracy, the focus on carefully stamped documents the behavior of real estate agents all provide a contrast to what we are accustomed to. The book is very readable can provide a map of what is involved in starting afresh but also does not over romanticize the dream. I think anyone who has dreamt of a fresh start or been a tourist in Prague will enjoy reading this memoir.

Once upon a time...This was my thermo text when I took the class from the former director of flight test engineering at Edwards. He was a stickler for fundamentals and this was the text he chose. It covers all the fundamentals and is both comprehensible and thorough.
I had to buy a second one as the original one from class has a worn out binding.

Okay, now that I've done that, let me start by saying this:
Book 1 of this series is what made me a fan of Bryce's. Since the moment I heard the first whisper about book 2, I have been waiting impatiently because I adore this concept.
Song of Siren picks up where In The Arms of Love leaves off, and from the first sentence of the story, the plot line is on the move.
There isn't any pointless drivel being read, and yet the pacing was spot on.
I love the characters in this series, and adored the fact that I got to see them develop and grew to love (or deeply despise) them even more.

The action was amazing. The scenes were so vivid that it was easy to 'see' them happening. Not an easy task to accomplish, especially since, well, octogirls are involved.

Amidst all the action and ridiculously hot sex (friggin tentacles!!) the emotional impact was insanely powerful.
I laughed, almost cried, and mentally cheered with maniac glee on some likely inappropriate parts (#TeamLiana).
Overrall, to say I enjoyed this is a vast understatement.

I'm Under Bryce's Siren Song

Let me say that I am a fan of Bryce's work. His writing is vivid, tight, well-edited, and just a joy to read. His latest takes us further into Jaelyn and Lianna's world, and I have to say I am blown away by his wordsmithing.

I love this world. I love the dystopian feel of it, because I can see the segregation of people quite well. It's happened in the real world, and it certainly would happen in a fantasy world like this. I love the romance between Lianna and Jaelyn, and I love his supporting cast. The villains are suitably complex, the heroes are not necessarily fighters or know what the right thing is to do... all the characters are fully formed and realized with their own voices, motivations, and goals. I adore this romance. It's not just a romance or an erotic romance (because lemme tell you... the sex in here is absolutely hot as heck!), but a story of learning how far a person will go for love, and what they'll do to keep it. Five out of five. Can't wait until the next.

If you are a solo indie designer/developer I strongly recommend reading this book. The author, in my opinion, has done the best job in explaining the foundational principles of game design. I have read several game design books over the past 3 years to learn how to design games, and then to development. Granted it has been a part-time effort as I work full-time, but I wish I had read this book first. The others I have read seem to be geared to serious game design students in a formal course of study; or new game designers working in a AAA studio. I learned some,but had to filter a lot of the material as it didn't seem to fit the solo, indie designer/developer. Ernest Adams shoves that approach aside and gets down to the very basics all game designers need to understand, regardless of genre or style of work. He presents the material in a clear and understandable prose with examples from all genres to demonstrate their universality. After reading this book I would also highly recommend reading Ernest Adams other book Game Mechanics (see my review).

The beginning and the end of game design books

Written by the man who founded the IGDA, this is the best starting point to understanding video game design. Written like a true textbook I found the information to be very relevant, concise and well organized. The assignments and questions at the end of each chapter are designed with real world situations in mind. It is rare that we game designers ever get to build for ourselves. More often we are working for development companies and the exercises have this in mind. I hope they update this sooner rather than later as the information does not have much about motion capture or the new motion interfaces but hopefully they will include more in the next edition. Awesome resource that I recommend for beginners to intermediate.

Greatest resource for game design I've found.

Adams is a terrific author - he provides simple, clear guidelines for Game Design. I had a question about the book and emailed him and he got right back to me very quickly! Awesome.

I just can't say enough about this book. Buy it and read it is all I can say - if you're serious about game design you will find what you need in this book.

A required book for anyone interested in the study of Exorcism!

This book is a complete history of exorcism and possession that starts in the primitive cultures and ends with modern day possessions. This is NOT a trash book on Hollywood exorcist movies! The book is a very historic history on possession and exorcisms.
The book should be a required reference book for any serious student of possession and exorcism! We I teach the subject of possession, this is a required text!
