Good score. Came on time and there are few misprints in english and german. I find that the english translation is the most lyrical and makes the most sense compared to other publishers. As always a Schirmer score is a valuable investment for any opera singers collection!

Overall, the score was great. There are a few places where there isn't German and a few places where the English is missing, but they weren't very big sections. They were also easy to interpret. For instance, when it was missing the English, the only German text was "Sie lebt, Sie lebt"-"she lives, she lives." No rocket science needed to figure that out.

This used score was in good condition, only the binding was coming off. The seller was very honest about its condition, it still was a very good copy and Schirmer's in my opinion is the best name to buy.
It is complete, with table of contents, acts and scenes and page numbers, and arias also listed.

Originally published in 1966, Mother Mother I Feel Sick Send for the Doctor Quick Quick Quick by Remy Charlip and Burton Supree, has been re-illustrated by Charlip, with silhouette paper cut-outs against a background of Victorian wallpaper. This visual treatment gives the story about a beach ball-shaped boy with a stomach ache a nostalgic look sophisticated enough to lure modern readers. As the doctor removes each item from the boy's stomach (a parasol, a bicycle, etc.), they appear in full color on the opposite spread, and the boy gradually returns to his natural size and shape.

Dear publishing industry: Someone please bring this wonderful story back into print! I would buy multiple copies for the library where I work and my personal library at home.

Dear readers: This is a clever, funny story. You can increase your fun by turning it into a shadow play and acting it out. Someone can lay on the floor behind a white sheet and another person can pretend to be the Doctor and pull all sorts of silly objects out of the patient's belly.

A familiar book

I chose this book because I have had prior experience dramatizing it (as a play)
with 1st graders. It lends itself to creativity, for example, whatever objects
children (actors) brought to use as swallowed objects, the nurse or doctor (child)
thinks of something to rhyme in a surprised/horrified comment as they bring it into
view. Fun.

Hard to find books

I wanted a copy of this book to give to a friend who works in a children's hospital. It is hilarious and encourages the child to tell the story or even act it out. Amazon did a great job of locating the book which is currently out of print.

This directory of film awards from 1927 to 1999 offers full coverage of the Academy Awards as well as the prizes given out by the Golden Globes, Directors Guild, Writers Guild, Screen Actors Guild, Producers Guild, National Society of Film Critics, New York Film Critics Circle, Los Angeles Film Critics Association, Broadcast Film Critics Association, National Board of Review, Independent Spirits, and the Sundance Film Festival. Chronologically arranged, each entry includes a critical commentary of the awards' procedures and voting, lists of nominees and winners, behind-the-scenes happenings, announcement dates and places, and one or two small black-and-white pictures. Movie Awards concludes with a two-page commentary on each of the above groups, a chronological list of best pictures (great for quick comparisons), "kudos counts" (most awards, most nominations, trivia), nonwinners, journalists' awards, voters, and a title and name index. O'Neil writes in the breezy Variety style, which makes for good browsing, but he always zeroes in on the significant factoids and quotes. Numerous excellent books chronicle the Oscars (Robert Osborne's 70 Years of the Oscar, Abbeville, 1999) or cite awards (Peter Mowrey's Award-Winning Films, McFarland, 1993), but none combines pure pleasure and fact so well, at such a good price. If ever...

...a book is deserving of an update its this one. While all the information contained here can easily be sourced online now, nowhere can you have it all put together this neatly or this conveniently. Loads of research (with a few minor factual errors) has gone into this so let's hope Mr. O'Neil is asked to correct those errors and cover the intervening 16 years of award ceremonies and results. I have no doubt it would be welcomed.

A Perfect Handbook

Thomas O'Neil's "Movie Awards" is an absolutely no lose purchase for even a casual movie maven. Serious movie fans should be enthralled. It's all here-all the important awards from 1927-1999. Listed are such disparate grantors as the New York Film Critics, the Writer's Guild, the Screen Actors Guild, the Directors Guild, the Golden Globes and the Academy Awards.
Trivia and solid information alike abounds. This reviewer was shocked-shocked!-to read that "The Searchers" was nominated for NO awards in 1956. The pages devoted to 1969 make no mention of the Hollywood aphorism that John Wayne received that year's Best Actor Oscar (for "True Grit") to make up for being bypassed in 1956. The entire cast and Director of "The Searchers" was ignored! I also learned that Clark Gable did not win the Oscar for "Gone With the Wind" and that Tex Ritter's theme to "High Noon" won an Oscar in 1952. I still believe that is the best of the themes because it was an integral part of the actual movie. A trivia section informs us that Walter Brennan won the most Academy Awards for an actor (though not for "My Darling Clementine") and William Friedkin was the youngest Director to an Oscar. For which movie? Buy the book and check page 767. The very fact that there IS a page 767 indicates that this work cannot be devoured at one or two sittings. This is a thick handbook to be appreciated over a span of time as we watch those old classics one by one. Maybe when I read the section on 1949, I will learn why "The Third Man' got 0 Oscar nominations and why the entire cast of "A Letter to 3 Wives" went similarly empty handed. I can't wait.

Incredible Resource!

Finally, we have a resource which discusses a lot of the other so-called "precursor" awards to the Oscars ... finding information on the history of these various awards has been somewhat difficult in the past. With this book, however, it's all together in one place. It's very well written, and leads you through the movie awards seasons, allowing one to see exactly how the different trends for certain films began, and we finally see the path they took until they finally took home the Oscar Gold! Definitely one of the best overall resources for those interested in all aspects of the film awards season.

Older Fan Review for the Bronies and Pegasisters

Twilight Sparkle and The Crystal Heart by G.M. Berrow

This review is for the older fans of MLP:FIM who are curious about what this book has to offer. A little bit about me I'm a college student studying electrical engineering and I'm a 21 year old guy who has a distinct love for slice of life cartoons. I love this show more than you could imagine, so if you got any questions that my review doesn't answer feel free to comment. Don't be shy fellow pegasisters and bronies, : ).

What you really want to know (for those who want to go straight to the point):

Anyway, I received this book in the mail today, and after about 4 hours of reading and digesting the material, I can safely say that our beloved Twilight Sparkle is still her very same "adorkable" self. She is still very studious, stubborn, and very modest when it comes to her achievements. So we can all rest easy in the personality department, she hasn't changed one bit. As for her relationship with the mane 6, the only difference is of course she is royalty now, but other than the occasional Princess calling they are still the down to earth friends we all fell in love with. Also we get some background on Princess Cadance! (*squee*)

Brief Synopsis: [Spoilers inbound]. I will put my personal thoughts in (personal thoughts)

The book starts off where the ending episode of Season 3 left us, exactly the day after the coronation of Twilight Sparkle and her transformation into "Alicornhood". Our pony girl, Twilight Sparkle is having some trouble on how to handle her transition into royalty. She even tells many of her acquaintances around ponyville including her friends to drop her title of "Princess" when addressing her. At one point in the story, the author jokingly says, "Maybe she should put a banner in the town square telling every pony to treat her as they normally would. "I'm just the same old Twilight, really". So as usual Twilight goes and does what she excels at and researches the subject in her private library, lol. She figures out with the help of Ms. Cake to ask her Pegasister-in-law (The author actually used this), Cadence.

So she goes to the Crystal Kingdom and ask Cadence for help. Princess Cadence talks to Twilight about her past (In my head: I yelled, YESSSS!!). So it turns out that Princess Cadance was actually an orphaned pegasus before and she was raised by earth ponies. (Go Figure! XD). She tells Twilight that she earned her Alicornhood from defeating Prismia an evil enchantress from her earth pony village. Upon defeating her, she is transported to the what I will call the "Astral" plane aka Celestia's Domain. Celestia transforms Cadance into an Alicorn and (*cough* kidnaps *cough*) put her under her wing after seeing her potential defeating Prismia. Further she tells Twilight that she never was born a leader rather she learned it through the help of the Crystal Heart Spell. Cadence gives Twilight a Heart Pedant that Cadance claims was Prismia's which should aid her in her search.

With this information Twilight writes letters to her (PFF - Pony Friends Forever aka her gangster friends) and they try and help her decipher how to find this elusive spell by giving her ideas of how to run a kingdom. Twilight dismisses their ideas and gets ticked off that her friends ideas aren't exactly helping her. Gilda drops by after all of Twilight's friends leave their secret meeting, and tells her to only listen to herself and forget her friends. Twilight takes this to heart goes to search for the crystal heart spell by herself, this leads to her being consumed by hatred and doubt in her friends as well as herself. Using her pegasus wings, Twilight flies over back to the Crystal Kingdom empire to look at the books in their library for the Crystal Heart spell. At this point, Twilight is in trouble since she is consumed by negative thoughts she was regressing. Cadence sets Twilight straight and the mane 6 reassure Twilight that their friendship remains strong.

In the end Twilight learns her biggest challenge in leadership would be friendship.

The moral:

We always knew Twilight to be on the introverted side (kinda like myself XD), although she isn't shy she can forget the importance in having friends and listening to your friends sometimes. (Heck she even has trouble remembering names of ponies (people) also like me.) She is the independent kinda of pony, but being a leader would sometimes require you to ask for the help of others. You must learn this Twilight!!!

Overall the book is great and the story and dialogue is what you would expect from a show episode.

A great chapter book that sounds just like an episode

While I realize I'm not in the target age group for this book, I'm a big fan of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, and was interested to hear new stories about each of the main characters, and this one didn't disappoint.

The story picks up directly after Twilight becomes a princess, and she's still struggling to find out what her duties are exactly, and if she's truly right for the job. At one point, she goes to see Princess Cadance for advice, and we finally learn her origin story (which, to me, was the highlight of the book). In the end, Twilight learns she can count on her friends to help her, but not without taking the wrong advice first from Gilda the griffon (another great cameo from an antagonist we haven't seen since Season 1).

Considering this was written for a younger audience, the story was pretty decent. There were plenty of cameos of various background ponies from the show, and references to the actual show proper. At times, I could imagine the characters' voices, as the writing sounds like this could've been an actual episode (and considering all the development we get for Cadance, it makes me wish it WAS an episode).

All around, if you're a fan of the show, reading these chapter books are a must. They're not very long (I finished this in an afternoon), and if the other books are anything like this one, I think us fans are in for a treat.

The Mass Effect 3 Extended Cut of My Little Pony

When I first watched Magical Mystery Cure, its ending almost reminded me of the ending of Mass Effect 3: Went by too fast, and created more questions than actual answers. BioWare, the creators of the Mass Effect trilogy, had to address the fans' issues by creating an Extended Cut ending to Mass Effect 3, which didn't change the ending but rather provided greater clarity to the original ending. Likewise, this book might be considered the Extended Cut to My Little Pony's Season Three finale, as it provides more clarity to Twilight's new life as an alicorn princess, while telling a great story that kids and bronies alike will enjoy.

My favorite thing about the story was how Twilight actually chose to stay behind in Ponyville to be close to her friends. And, even as an alicorn princess, she is not all powerful, not just because head-writer of the show Meghan McCarthy confirmed that Twilight will not outlive her friends, but also that in the story, Twilight learned that she still had to depend on her friends like she always does, only this time on political decisions. We're also given an origin story to Princess Cadence and how she became an alicorn princess herself, as well as two brony-favorites making cameo appearances in the story, Gilda the Griffon and Trixie.

The book is around one-hundred thirty pages, which can be very brief. However, it'll be worth the brevity due to its story of Twilight adjusting to her new role as leader. I'd recommend this to any child who loves MLP, as well as bronies who await Season Four of the show. Overall, this was the Extended Cut the show needed after the Season Three finale, providing clarity to Twilight's new life while telling a great story with a satisfying moral.
